Veterans Cup Hockey Tournament

Recap and Photos by John Russell

The Veteran’s Cup hockey game filled Centre Ice Arena on Friday, February 11, 2022, with great fans and a great cause. It has been two years since the last game due to the pandemic, but ultimately it will help raise funds to fly veterans to Washington, DC, to honor them at their memorials. It is a fundraiser for the Mid-Michigan Honor Flight and a local veterans coalition.

Mid-Michigan Honor Flight has flown over 800 Michigan veterans on these special flights. Free of cost. The staff is made completely of volunteers and the flights will resume this spring from Grand Rapids and in the fall from Traverse City.

.

TC Central and the Traverse Bay Reps played their hearts out for the honor of the event. The Reps won a hard-fought game, winning the Veterans Cup trophy, but ultimately, the veterans are the winners.
Thank you to all who attended and contributed to this special event, you are all greatly appreciated!
Here is more local media coverage regarding the event:
From Michigan Sports Now: “Standing in that crowd was Len Classens — a United States Army veteran of Vietnam, honorary captain, and grandfather of Bay Reps senior Gabe Classens and junior Drew Hardy. The night was emotional for all three, as the Reps beat the Trojans, 2-0, to claim the 2022 Veterans Cup.” https://www.misportsnow.com/2022/02/bay-reps-shuts-out-traverse-city-central-for-veterans-cup/?fbclid=IwAR0jcB9Qgt4fO_PEDoGcf-fxEcE37UIpXNjJXePuc0FSLhdwsx_tK34TaG4
