Sport Clips Haircuts “Help A Hero” campaign from October 10 – November 13

Sport Clips Haircuts is entering its 15th year of supporting U.S. service members and veterans with its Help A Hero Scholarship program.

Through donations from clients, team members, business, and vendor partners, last year Sport Clips nationally raised more than $1 million for the VFW.   Locally, the Traverse City Sport Clips store raised $5,742 in 2020 and ranked nationally #3 out of 1800 Sport Clips stores.   All of the funds raised locally and nationally go to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) which administers the scholarship program for Sport Clips.

In addition to raising funds for the scholarship program, the Traverse City Sport Clips also provided financial support to local veterans.  In May 2020, store manager Laurie Bolton and owner Rick Ohle presented a $2,000 donation to John Lefler and the Grand Traverse Area Veterans Coalition, a group of service organizations that promotes veterans’ services, memorials, and recognition programs.

Since 2013, more than 2,050 scholarships totaling $9.2 million have been awarded, with recipients being both active duty and veterans and coming from all five branches of the military.  These scholarships provide up to $5,000 of assistance per semester per family to help cover the cost of tuition and fees for service members and veterans in the rank of E-5 and below.   Some 637 schools have been represented since the scholarship program began.

Help A Hero scholarships are awarded twice a year to help cover the cost of tuition and fees.  Scholarship applications are accepted online at VFW.org/scholarships and are currently being accepted through November 15 for the 2022 spring semester.

Since the Traverse City Sport Clips Haircuts store opened in 2016, they have raised a total of $13,000 for Help A Hero.   Throughout the year, the Traverse City store offers a 20% discount on all services to veterans and active military.

During the campaign period, clients will be encouraged to donate to Help A Hero.

Any client who donates $5 or more will be given tickets to enter several drawings.  The greater the donation, the more tickets they receive. Those donating could win FREE MVP haircuts for a year or one of several other prizes donated by generous business partners.

The Traverse City Sport Clips will offer free haircuts on Veterans Day, November 11 to service members and veterans.  Also on Veterans Day, the Traverse City Sport Clips will donate an additional two dollars for every haircare service to the scholarship program,

In Traverse City, Sport Clips is located at 2508 Crossing Circle, across from Home Depot just off of Airport Road,
