Day of Recognition – Gold Star Mothers
The National Gold Star Mothers and Families Day of Recognition was celebrated in Traverse City on Sunday, September 26, 2021
“On the last Sunday in September, Gold Star Mother’s and Family Day honors the mothers, fathers, and families of fallen military service members. Also known as National Gold Star Mother’s Day, the day serves as a reminder of the losses suffered by military families.”
The Northern Michigan Blue to Gold Star Mothers, a Nonprofit organization held a small program at the Grand Traverse Area Veterans Memorial Park. The community gathered at the Gold Star Mothers statue as they placed a floral arrangement, read the names, and rang bells to honor the lives of local military members lost and the family members left behind. The honor guard also did a rifle salute and played a beautiful rendition of Taps.
“Our goal is to provide education and a network of support to the families of active-duty military and the families of military members who have lost their lives as a result of their service.”-Northern Michigan Blue to Gold Star Mothers, Inc.
